It confirms something that I have suspected for a long time, and I&#039;m sure is probably well documented elsewhere.

That is that Steve Jobs named the Macintosh computer in honour of McIntosh audio equipment. He did this, I suspect, because he had huge respect for their products. 

He was also making a point. McIntosh raised the game in professional and high-end home audio by making stuff that actually worked to published specifications, was easy to use and was reliable. 

Both the McIntosh and Macintosh products were way ahead of the competition when initially released. Both brands prompted the competition to raise their game, and even blatantly copy their looks and ideas.
