“Many of our clients come to us because they want someone to take care of their website, and we can do that, but we also listen carefully to what they need, not just what they think they want.   We dont just provide design, but also Content Managements Systems, e-commerce and sometimes integration with existing technology (so the website can update itself)”

igeek started in 2000, providing web hosting and development to the creative industry. Since then weve branched out into small and medium sized businesses of all kinds and our clients include everything from Potters, Publishers & photographers to ski schools and organic vegetable growers.

Apart from the web, igeeks other main line of business is creating Filemaker databases and weve just delivered a major project for one of Bristols most successful wildlife production companies.   igeeks team is just 4 people, but weve become successful by making complex technology easy to use, its a formula thats worked for 10 years – so were going to keep on doing it!

Microsoft has today officially launched web-based versions of its Office 2010, which Microsoft is calling Office Web Applications. These web-based applications will be a part of Windows Live Skydrive which is an online file storage service (25GB) provided by the Microsoft itself. This is clearly Microsoft’s answer to the Google Apps, which is Google’s online office suit. Microsoft has been under a lot of pressure since Google released Chrome OS which further took away market share of IE. It runs fine on all the modern web-browsers including IE, Firefox and Safari. Chrome is currently not supported, but a version that would support it is in the works. Support for Opera is nowhere mentioned. Oh, we forgot to mention the best part about it: it is FREE!

Click to Build

by Levi of eOffice News on July 12, 2009

The McMansion has worn out its welcome, hope for prefab is fading, and anyone with a sense of contemporary design taste shudders at what homebuilders are producing these days. But for most people who want to build a modern, “architectural” house, the price is out of their reach. That’s where Hometta, a new Houston-based company, comes in. Launched in late June, coinciding with LA’s Dwell on Design conference, the firm offers house plans designed by contemporary architects from across the country, and then guides owners to finding a way to build them.

Co-founder Andrew McFarland, and his team of four architects and designers from the Houston area (many are affiliated with or attended Rice University’s architecture school) picked the talented firms after a thorough search. Co-founder Mark Johnson, a builder based in Houston, said that their group of architects and house plans will grow much larger by the fall, which is what sets Hometta apart from the plethora of other sites offering home plans online: designer cache. That, and the sense of community the company attempts to foster through its playful, interactive site.

All projects are single family houses, and none measure more than 2,500 square feet, part of the company’s niche-oriented business plan—“If you can afford to build a larger house, and you can find an architect that you like, then you should,” said Johnson—and also a way to assure that the non-custom projects don’t overwhelm contexts. Johnson notes that if clients do want to customize the homes after buying the plans they are welcome to work with the designers.

The Next Web conference in Amsterdam just announced the winner of their startup competition. The judges were unanimous in naming My Name is E, and the startup got the audience vote as well. “E” enables you to collect all your social and contact accounts – on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and any other network – in one spot, and share them in real life by using any mobile phone or Connector, the USB product they also sell.

It’s not dissimilar to Poken in that latter respect, but as well as the wireless USB device it also lets you exchange cards between iPhones, Blackberries, Android phones, Windows Mobile phones, Nokias, Motorolas, Palm phones, and so on via the mobile web. So it’s a better interface all round – but it will face stiff competition from Poken which is already up and running and selling in big numbers in Europe and Japan and is poised to launch a marketing operation in the US.

E Mobile works a mobile web browser. You log in, select a card, and add your contact. To exchange a card with someone, you enter each other’s usernames on E. E will share the selected cards and automatically ‘friend’ you with the person you’re meeting on the social networks of your choice. It also supports industry standards like vCard exporting. It’s not done by Bluetooth or Infrared connection but locates you via the your IP location. You show the person you want to exchange cards with a unique pass code, they enter that into their phone and you’re then connected.
